Dispatch from Temple Shipley**
On Grand Avenue in front of Diller Scofidio + Renfro's new Broad Museum of Art in Los Angeles, a pearl Chevy Avalanche pauses at a red light.
Did the architects at Diller Scofidio + Renfro labor to design a high performing, luminous veil structure only to inadvertently model the Museum’s final form after that of the Chevy Avalanche?
The Broad Museum, founded by Los Angeles philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad, is home to nearly 2,000 works of post-war and contemporary art. This 120,000 square foot space features an expansive upper gallery that bathes in an ethereal southern California sunlight. The Museum offers free admission and actively loans artworks to international institutions. It is home to the largest private collection of work by photographer Cindy Sherman and includes substantial holdings of works by Christopher Wool, Jeff Koons, and Kara Walker.
